Diptych
Followers of the light, sunflowers invoke happiness to me.  Their stalks, as solid as a wooden trunk, secure them into the dirt to allow their head to be on a swivel.  From dusk to dawn, they follow the path of light, and as the go through their life cycle, are providers to so many creatures.  
We have grown them in our garden for years, and are really some of the most forgiving and tolerant plants to grow for us.  In late July/earlyAugust, when their blooms make their grand entrance, they quietly become the main character of the garden.
